In 2008, photographer Jared Soares traveled to Roanoke, Virginia. He set out to connect with his new surroundings through his love of hip-hop and ended up documenting the DIY rappers of the small, Blue Ridge Mountains town, capturing a scene brimming with innovation, hope and creativity.
